Dama, Silba, and Almighty Helal tell the tales of the three celestials and how their fates intertwined.
By Ahmed Hassan
In a land beyond, far from the eyes of the mortal realm, lived a mighty god named Helal. Helal governed the realm of celestials and had sovereign over his realm as he was the first to exist and was later followed by his twin daughters, Dama and Silba. They all lived in serenity and peace under the rule of Helal and his wisdom…or so they thought.
Silba was always infatuated with her personality, beauty, and intellect. One would argue
that she had narcissistic tendencies, but they were kept in check by her more modest sister Dama, as she was the younger, more modest, and more caring sibling. Nonetheless, the two were in constant struggle to prove themselves to Helal and who's more to govern his realm. There were other servants in the realm of the celestials that were more akin to automatons, following every command bestowed upon them by Helal, and they never disobeyed him or went out of his rule as they were only designed to obey and aid his creation plans. As the years went by, Helal felt the gap between his two daughters grow, and he called it upon himself to set a series of trials for them to pass so he would decide who could be deemed worthy of rule after his passing. So he created a man in an image most handsome and demanded the two siblings be his escorts and follow his every command, and by the end of the specified period, he'd deem one of them worthy of rule over Helal's realm.
The rule was simple: spend a day with each of them for a period of eight days. Days passed as the man spent each day with each of the daughters, and as the days passed, they felt more attached to his presence, and with it, their gap grew as each wanted the man for themselves. So the competition grew as the daughters started to give their all to the man to make him as pleased as possible. The man kept accepting the gifts of the two daughters without favoring one over the other, which made it more tiring for the two girls to come up with new ways to please him. And near the end of the seventh day, he was supposed to spend it with Dama, but Silba had other plans.
She planted a tree and convinced the man to spend time under it while he waited for Dama to join him. The man agreed, followed the advice of the older sister, and kept waiting patiently under the tree. As he waited for a while, he felt hungry and soon after started to gaze upon the golden fruits of the tree he was under. He pushed it, and a couple of fruits fell from it. At that time, Dama was wondering where the man might be and stumbled upon her sister Silba, who told her the man was waiting for her under a tree she had recently planted. In her eagerness to see the man, Dama hurried to the place her sister described, which was the intention of the older sister. Silba later consulted with Helal, saying that they were going against his rules and were spending more time together without him knowing. Helal, angered by the words of Silba, set forth to confirm these allegations. In the meantime, Dama went to find the man eating the golden fruits of the tree. Excited to see him, Dama placed her hand on the man, who, to her surprise, turned into a hideous creature with horns, a long dragon-like face, a tail, and a pair of wings.
Taken aback by his new appearance, she screamed with horror. A scream so loud that Helal
and Silba came on its wake. With an angered Helal, a horrified Dama, a grinning Silba, and a confused shell of a man, the day ended, signaling a new judgment from the ruler of the celestials. Dama was cast down into the mortal realm to live the rest of her days as atonement, along with the befouled man-like creation, which was named later to his sin as Evan. Silba took a place with her father in the celestial realm and was crowned princess to the throne and queen to be. Helal, torn by his trial and the fate of his second daughter, decided to spend the rest of his days watching over her and Evan from above while whispering every once in a while for them to guide them towards redemption away from the prying eyes of his older sibling.
